Techniques and Tips

The author has many years of experience in teaching drawing and painting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. This book is focused on various techniques and styles in drawing human figures and portraits. It also provides useful tips and thoughts based on the author's years' experience. The book has 192 pages, each page includes one or more figure/head drawings done from live models. There are about 20 step-by-step demonstrations from detailed and traditional approaches to fast and painterly styles. It's a book that wil benefit both begining and advanced learners. It's also a nice book just for enjoying the beautiful images with various artistic approaches.

  

Students will learn the methods of practicing figure/portrait drawing, improving their skills in drawing human proportions, anatomy, shading and rendering for 3-D forms. 

From short pose gesture and anatomy studies, to long pose painterly approaches,

different techniques introduced in Henry Yan's Figure Drawing-Techniques and Tips, will also be explained and practiced in class.

Henry Yan has been teaching at Academy of Art University in San Francisco for more than twenty years. 

He teaches figure and portrait drawing and painting for the schools of Fine Arts, Foundations, and Illustrations of the University. 

His book, “Henry Yan's Figure Drawing – Techniques and Tips” published in 2006, has been widely used by art students and professional artists in the US and internationally. 

Other than teaching for the Art University, he has also been invited in running seminars and workshops in USA, Canada, Europe and Asia, large amount of his works have been collected internationally.

Charcoal pencils - medium and soft: HB, 2B,4B or 6B.
Vine charcoal or willow: soft, in medium or large sizes
Kneaded eraser
Knife for sharpening pencils

Smooth Newsprint paper 18”x24”
Drawing board

Please note that Casa Buena will have all the supplies, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Workshop Fee

Cost: $1850.00 USD includes
Hotel for the first night in Puerto Vallarta, accommodations at Casa Buena, studio space, all meals, field trips,

transport from and to Puerto Vallarta.

SPOUSES or NON PAINTING FRIENDS are welcome for $1000.00 USD

Canadians can e-transfer to janerom@shaw.ca

Cancellation Policy A. If your workshop is cancelled due to Instructor's unavailability, you will be notified immediately and you will receive a full refund.B. If you can't attend your retreat and notify us 45 days prior to the retreat, you are welcome to transfer 100% of your full payment to another Casa Buena Art Retreat within 2 years of the date of cancellation. You can transfer your payment to another person or any other options that Casa Buena has to offer.C. If you can't attend your retreat and notify us 30 days prior to the retreat, you are welcome to transfer 70% of your full payment to another Casa Buena Art Retreat within 2 years of the date of cancellation.

D. If you can't attend your retreat and notify us 14 days or less prior to the retreat, Casa Buena Art Retreat will not issue any refunds or transfers to other session. Your only choice is to transfer your payment to another person.
