Impressionist Landscape Painting - Soft Pastels

with Doug House
January 24 - 31, 2018

Has your spirit ever been elevated to new heights by listening to great music or by being witness to a wondrous landscape and wishing you could create that beauty by painting? Well you can, and some of the great American and French Impressionists and Tonalist painters did just that. In these classes we will discover the techniques they used to make their paintings the great master works that have stood the test of time.

Instructor demonstrations and critiques will teach students how to create different levels of distance within their plein air or photographed landscapes using color, perspective, detail and thoughtfully developed compositions practicing and exploring various techniques with individualized advice and focused direction from the instructor.

Students will complete this workshop with a finished painting or paintings.

You can see Doug's work at www.douglashousefineart.com

Early registration is advised as student numbers are limited. This will assure a place in our program. Students are accepted on a first come first serve basis.

All levels welcome.

While you're busy creating art, your friendly hosts at Casa Buena will be working hard, ensuring that your stay is a memorable one. Outstanding food, accommodations, and field trips will satisfy your desires for both comfort and adventure.

Workshop Instructor:
Doug L. House

Although I started painting by age ten or eleven, later on, when I entered the University of Wisconsin I was very fortunate to be able to have studied with a number of wonderful professors, but especially Adolph Rosenblatt. It was great teachers that affected my life in profound ways that went beyond painting and that over time led to spiritual insights and development.

Other important influences have been the French and American Impressionists, the Barbizon School of painters and the American Expressionists and Tonalists. I am continuously fascinated by their use of light, paint value and color to create mood, mystery and expression.

For the past number of years I have focused my landscape paintings around the national forests, parks and scenes of the Minnesota and Wisconsin Great Lakes area, the Canadian Border Parks and by the grand majestic views of the Great Lakes.

So it has been my goal in painting, not too record nature but to try and open my perception and observation; to seek and reveal natures incredible and never ending gestures. To explore and derive the imagery that distills natures essence; and to to bring those extraordinary and sublime visual harmonies to painting.
